Black Hats – Video Shoot Pt 3 – Day 1

On Saturday the 19th of November, I was lucky enough to join the Black Hats on their video shoot.   Day 1 was filming the band performance sections, which would be filmed in Cube Studios.

Before I say anything else, I posted the resulting video a couple of days ago, so go back and check it out!

Before the day, I’d not met any of the band, besides some chatting on twitter, so it was a relief to find out that everyone in the band was incredibly friendly and welcoming, as was Rich, from FX Films, who was shooting the video.

After a fairly rapid set-up, there were a couple of rehearsal runs, where a few things were changed, bits of the room were moved around, lighting was tweaked, playback was sorted (with a click).   After the tweaks were made, a couple of takes of the song were filmed, the room was turned around and the song was filmed again (to create the illusion of a tiny box room, instead of a tiny box room with a door).

After a break for lunch, close-ups were filmed on pretty much anything happening in the tiny box room.

When everything was finished, there was the job of checking details for day 2.   Which promised to be more complicated, more time consuming, more alcoholic, and more fun than day 1.
